Izu Adventure Factory | mountains meets the ocean

Welcome to Izu peninsula

Why not travel to where the mountains meet the sea?

We at Lodge Mondo have set foot into the woods to awaken the ancient paths. Fallen trees become firewood—we are warmed and something new begins to grow. Just as rain filters down the mountain and rivers pour into the ocean, we too will dash down the slopes and row out to sea. A sustainable adventure tour around the sea and mountains of the Izu Peninsula.

Our activism story

At Lodge Mondo, we restore ancient paths, work to maintain the forest, are locally energy self-sufficient through woody biomass, and provide adventure tourism. We stand face-to-face with the mountains and the sea of the Izu Peninsula, and do what we can to restore nature's circle of life.

Activities and Tours

MTB TOUR

Take this trail ride tour that travels down to the sea and ride your mountain bike on a halfpipe trail chock steeped in history and culture. The Izu Peninsula has an ancient road that dates back twelve hundred years. Once used as a place to worship the mountains and for burning charcoal, it fell into disrepair once fossil fuels such as gas gained in use. We have upcycled it as a mountain biking trail, with our own hands. This tour is available year-round, as the area stays warm and snowless.

MTB TOUR

Kayak Tour

We have a number of tours by which you may enjoy the sea around Izu by kayak, the most popular being the Kayak Fishing Tour. Travel in a Hobie pedal drive kayak, which frees your hands for fishing. You may also visit beaches inaccessible by land, or join a kayak cruising tour and enjoy watching the sunset on the sea with your children.

Other Tour

We also provide small-scale river hunter-gathering tours, and tours for hiking along ancient trails. Please choose whichever tour suits you as the best all-around enjoyment of the natural environment of the Izu Peninsula.

STAY

LODGE MONDO

Lodge Mondo is a guest house we renovated ourselves using wood we cut from trees in the mountains of Niishiizu. Eight kinds of trees were stretched organically across to form the dining room. The deck is made out of a single hewn board. Our seven guest rooms each have their own unique wood and colors. We are committed to self-sufficient sustainable energy, and the hot water in the bathrooms is produced using a firewood boiler fueled with wood cut during forest pruning.
